Buche de Noel- a Christmas Tradition

yule logTis’ the season of celebration and there are many wonderful things and foods that are part of our festivities.  A favorite food for many at Christmas is the “Buche de Noel” or “Yule Log”.  Chef Jessica’s recipe has made her quite popular this time of year- with this being her most requested dessert for catered gatherings.  If you want to have one to share with your guests this holiday season you can order the cake from KitchenAble in your choice of size: small or large.  Please give us at least 7 days advance notice or call if you need it for a specific date or event (and we are happy to prepare it on your personal platter).

20151113_175823We are also happy to offer a very special, decadent treat: Magical Mendiants.  These incredibly decadent disks of dark chocolate are all hand formed in a wide array of rich, beautiful flavors.  Some of our flavor options include:  Hot Chocolate (with organic Saigon cinnamon, raw organic cocoa nibs, and crushed chili pepper flakes), Coconut Cocoa (with dried organic coconut and raw organic cocoa nibs),Cardamom-Black-Pepper-Pistachio, Peppermint, Apricot and Nutmeg, Citrus Zest, Candied Ginger, Hazelnut Praline, Raspberry, Lavender, Dark Cherry, and Pecan- Cranberry.  We make them in our cottage using the traditional French Technique and would be happy to package a platter for your next event or to use as a client gift.  We will warn you- they are addictive!  Call or email to order.

*Both the Buche de Noel and Magical Mendiants are gluten-free.

“Interpreting the joy of living through painting is meaningful to me. I am moved to paint people, nature, still life, and landscapes as a part of everyday life.” -Sandy De Lopez

On Friday, September 4 we hope you will swing by KitchenAble and say hello as we celebrate First Friday!  From 6pm until 9pm we  will offer complementary refreshments and have special guest artist Sandy De Lopez.  Her beautiful paintings will be on display at our cottage and available for purchase.

Sandy DeLopez was born in Chicago, grew up in the Atlanta area, then moved to Germany.  She has called Tallahassee home since 1974.  At Emory University, she studied art history, and then spent hours and days touring all the major European art museums while living in Germany.  After her personal Renaissance in 2008, Sandy began painting with a passion.

Sandy’s work has been shown at the Gadsden Arts Center; FSU’s Museum of Fine Arts; Pond LiliesTallahassee Community College; Tallahassee City Hall; the Marvin Cook Studio; the FSU College of Medicine;  Lemoyne; 1020 Art Gallery; Tallahassee Senior Center; Brokaw McDougall House; Radiology Associates; at a Tallahassee Symphony performance; Forest Meadows Tennis Center; and several local restaurants.  She has won various awards in juried exhibitions.  Her work is also going to be featured September through November, 2015 in the gallery on the 22nd floor of the Florida Capitol.

Sandy encourages everyone to take the plunge and indulge themselves in art. “Start with any medium: drawing, photography, painting, or sculpture.  Appreciating or producing art is what defines us and connects us as humans.  What we loved naturally as children can be revived in our adult lives.”

We’re Participating in the AARP Boomer Academy

Would yoEvent Imageu like to learn how to prepare healthy meals that don’t cost a lot of money?  Come to this class on July 11, 10:00am at KitchenAble.

KitchenAble Cooking School is participating in the July Boomer Academy for AARP.   Chef Jessica will lead a demonstration cooking class, “Healthy Cooking for 2 on a Budget”. Learn how to prepare healthy and delicious meals on a budget, get some great tips from Chef Jessica and best of all  you will be able to eat what you make!

AARP has been conducting monthly workshops entitled the “Boomer AARP logoAcademy” since January 2013.  Each month a different topic is offered that focuses on areas of interest to Boomers such as writing a book and getting it published, encore entrepreneurs, Medicare 101, healthy active aging, planning for the social side of retirement and civic engagement.  Many of the workshops offered are based on feedback from attendees who tell AARP what they would like to learn more about.  A common request has been healthy eating, eating healthy on a budget and cooking for two.  So how about a class that covers all three areas?  AARP is thrilled to be working with Chef Jessica to offer this class.

IMAG0631AARP is committed to creating and connecting you to valuable resources and tools that help you save money, and tackle the issues that matter most to you, your family and your community. What we do might surprise you.  We’re all about real possibilities.

Use this link to reserve your seat in the upcoming class.  Space is limited so don’t delay!  All are welcome, regardless of age or membership with AARP.
